Make Your Own Magic: Morning Rituals
The early morning quiet hours are very sacred to me. It is the time where I connect with Spirit, receive and record the messages meant for me that day, set my intention and lovingly nourish my mind, body and soul as I welcome a new day. I love my mornings so much that I always find a way to carve out enough time to complete my morning ritual. I cram so much into the morning that I willingly set my alarm for 4:30am just to ensure I can experience it all. My mornings weren't always this sacred. It began with one commitment to myself and began to naturally evolve into my beautiful morning practice.
It started with a commitment to do yoga every day. I had found myself hanging out in a place of judgement and realized that if I wasn't dedicated to my own practice I definitely had no place making judgments about how someone runs their business. I remember the moment distinctly as it took place during a Sound Bath in November of 2019. I had been practicing yoga on and off since I was a teenager. While I became more consistent with regular practice as an adult, I would go through phases of consistency. Yoga with Adriene has been my long-time favorite at home yoga. Six years ago I took a recommendation from a teacher I was working with and checked out Yoga with Adriene's free 30 days of yoga videos on YouTube. I fell in love with Adriene's style, personality and humor as I practiced quality yoga in the comfort of my own home. I joined her subscription service so I can have access to all the videos and tools she has available.
One of the Paths she has available to subscribers is a series called Light which focused on the 7 main chakras found in the body. Each time I completed the series, I found myself wanting to add another layer to my practice. I had picked up a set of Chakra Essential Oils from Desert Sage Herbs that I used to make my own Chakra Sprays. Each morning I select a spray to spritz myself and my mat with. I was later inspired to add crystals to go with my practice. I found heart-shaped palm stones and small spheres that were perfect to work with from Black Market Minerals. Each morning now I choose different crystals to work with based on the different chakras and my needs that day.
My friend and massage therapist, Isabel, always uses Palo Santo to cleanse the space before each session. I became inspired to do the same thing with my morning practice. I began to smudge myself each morning focusing on cleansing my different chakra points and transmuting any lower energies into love. At a pop-up event at SW Herb Shop, I learned about cleansing my aura with selenite. The powerful stone is a great energetic cleanser and I now I have my own wand that I use each morning before smudging.
I keep adding more as I am influenced by the people I interact with, the places I go, the books I read and the more I learn. I have incorporated a singing bowl, drawing cards, and journaling as well. I carve out my time in the morning as a daily act of self-love. I set intentions for the day that help keep me balanced and grounded as I go out into the world. There is a lot of activity, energy, and challenges that we encounter throughout our day. Spending this time to find the calm helps keep me centered when the storm hits. I share this with you in hopes to inspire and encourage you to find your own beautiful way to start the day and begin to create your own ritual. Start simple, with just one thing, be consistent and see how it naturally evolves.
